This paper describes IntellAware — a distributed, networked computer system that provides continuous, real-time, on-line monitoring, analysis, and diagnosis of power plant machinery condition. The IntellAware system enhances Monitoring & Diagnostic (M&D) capabilities by 1) replacing periodic manual monitoring with remote, continuous on-line monitoring, 2) implementing new sensors and products to detect equipment anomalies, and 3) applying integrated advanced diagnostics and prognostics to enhance decision making to improve equipment efficiency and reliability. It also optimizes resources by using technology to focus on higher value tasks such as analysis instead of manual data collection. Pilot systems are currently deployed at Progress Energy plants in North Carolina and Florida. IntellAware will also be used in EPRI’s Smart M&D special project.
