The ASME B31.1 Power Piping Code, Chapter VII (the Code) (1), has stated that Operating Companies shall establish a program to assess and document the condition of their Covered Piping Systems (CPS) especially those that operate in the creep range. This includes maintaining design, construction, operational and historical records of the CPS plus a continuing assessment of select pipe hangers.

As part of its response, Newmont Energy has established a pipe hanger assessment program of the CPS. This paper discusses the steps taken to set the program up, perform the assessments, tabulate the results, develop a punch list of items that need attention, create a schedule to rectify the problems found and institute a plan to continue the effort over the life of the plant.
