Acoustic waves in the steam supply of some Boiling Water Reactors have caused fatigue cracking of steam dryers. The physics of acoustic source terms in the steam supply are reviewed and attributes of the acoustic loading are illustrated. Novel signal interrogation techniques are developed to characterize variability over time in load amplitude as a function of load frequency. Time varying attributes of the dynamic loading are related to component dynamic stress prediction methods to enable component endurance predictions.
