Abstract

Risk, which is a quantitative representation for the degree of health risk caused by radiation exposure from disposed radioactive waste, is a main indicator for the safety of High-Level radioactive Waste (HLW) in Korean regulation, and it should be calculated by an appropriate methodology, which is not yet officially setup. Following the previous companion paper, which gives the overall description of the safety assessment, this paper shows the overall algorithm for risk assessment, actual example of a simple model by GoldSim, and the Monte Carlo simulation results for the model. This study may be an enabling step for developing deep-geological repository and carrying out the risk assessment afterwards in Korea.
