Abstract
Required by Hungarian legislation, operators of radioactive waste repositories — as all users of radioactive materials — should operate waste inventory record keeping systems (WIRKS). The WIRKS should provides information about the total quantity of the waste, its origin, date and location of disposal, physical and chemical characteristics, and radionuclide inventory. Since the commissioning of the only operational repository at Püspökszilágy in 1976, waste data are recorded and archived. To improve the quality and reliability of the waste information collected so far, to raise the quality of record keeping for the future operation life of the facility and to meet modern domestic and international requirements, the Püspökszilágy WIRKS was recently upgraded. The paper briefly describes the main features of the new WIRKS, and also reports on the critical re-evaluation procedures performed during the migration of the old database into the new system.
