Abstract

The Stage-Gate model of product development has been used in the private sector to launch new products. The model requires a product to go through a series of evaluations to progress on to the next stage in its development.

The DOE uses a modified version of this model in its environmental remediation development program. The technology must be peer reviewed, and at two of these stages, the technology must be evaluated for hazards to workers. This hazard evaluation process assists developers in finding and designing out hazards before deployment and is unique to the federal environmental remediation technology development program.
