The LM2500+ is the growth version of General Electric’s LM2500 aero-derivative gas turbine of which there are over 1,300 units delivered for service in marine propulsion, electric power generation and mechanical drive applications. Design rated for 29 MW (39,000 shp), the LM2500+ will be available with a High Speed Power Turbine (HSPT) for both mechanical drive and electrical power generation applications. This HSPT is being designed and developed by Nuovo Pignone in a coordinated effort with GE’s LM2500+ design program. This paper will outline the HSPT project background, the conceptual layout and the aerodynamic design aspects deemed as the most relevant in determining the expected performance for both mechanical drive and power generation applications.
