Standard design methodology used for monolithic ceramic components uses Weibull probabilistic criteria. Finite element analysis modelling is performed to determine component reliability. Other important design considerations include time dependent behavior, ceramic to metal interfaces, and ceramic to ceramic interfaces. Design methodologies for composite structures increase the complexity of the design and analysis process due to the anisotropy of the material. This allows tailoring of the material architecture to accommodate specific component requirements.
