The evaluation of the performance of a cogeneration cycle is a complex balance of heat assignments for various portions of the cycle. Selection of the optimum gas turbine, steam turbine, and boiler combination to match the process or district heating requirements requires numerous heat balances.
A method is presented to determine the most fuel-efficient cycle as well as the most efficient combination of equipment to meet the load profile. This system of plotting performance facilitates the selection of a combination that is the most economical for a given electrical and heat load requirement.
Parameters of boiler supplemental firing temperature and equivalent electrical heat rate with steam flow and total fuel consumption for all load conditions are displayed.
