An extensive investigation was made of the mechanism of flame stabilization by the interaction of a rich two-phase (vapor-liquid) mixture jet with a counter air stream. It was found that the ratio of the mass velocity of the main stream to that of the jet (m) is a very important parameter determining the main features of the flow and flame structures. Moreover, the similarity of the flow with respect to the mass velocity ratio in the region of the interaction between the air-fuel jet and the air stream was a significant finding. Different mechanisms of flame stabilization were recognized in the vicinity of the rich and lean limits.
