Rapid solidification powder metallurgy alloy development is evolving new materials which have potential benefit to vehicular gas turbine components. Aluminum alloys with higher temperature capability for compressors, iron alloys with better properties for recuperators, and nickel alloys capable of sustaining higher stresses and temperatures for turbines are examples of the possibilities from this new technology. Additionally, the direction of these developments has taken a course whereby reduction in concentration of strategically limited elements which are now used in engine materials appears feasible.
