One of the advantages of the Gas Turbine is that it can burn almost any kind of flammable liquid. The aim of the fuel system engineer must therefore be to provide equipment which can pump and meter any fuel which is acceptable to the engine, without limiting the engine performance, life or reliability. The reasons why the authors believe this aim to be of particular importance at the present time, and the kind of engine to which it is most relevant, are outlined. The principal topic, the design and development of pumps able to achieve this “multi-fuel capability,” is also discussed.
