The initial portion of this paper is devoted to the control system-prime mover interface. The results of the transient simulation are reviewed with special emphasis given to their influence on the control system design. Speed and pitch control is described from the five control stations: Engineering control console, bridge console, bridge wings (2) and aloft conning station. Prime mover (3) operation in free route and icebreaking is described with special attention focused on transfer between modes and between prime movers. The data logging and alarm monitoring system are described in relation to its performance and maintenance capabilities.
