The wide range of sizes and types of gas turbine offered today present the gas pipeline system designer with a formidable task in determining the best equipment for a particular gas pipeline application. It is suggested that an analytical approach to account for the statistical or expected availability of various considered compressor-driver units will not only assist in making these decisions but provide a more accurate overall economic comparison. This paper reviews some concepts of accounting for differences in equipment availability in terms of resulting overall system compression costs.
