Megawatts on Wheels

The authors’ company has recently delivered three 17,000-kw mobile generating stations to American Electric Power Company. This paper describes the major activities, design criteria, design tradeoffs and tests which led to the development of these van-sized vehicles which are capable of travelling at speeds of 60 mph and made operational at a site in less than two hours after arrival.
