The Feher cycle heat engine is a new approach to efficient and effective energy conversion. The mechanical design of the XFCTAP 01-01 10-kw Turbo-Alternator test unit is described with specific attention to the small turbomachinery component fabrication, the design of the hydrostatically stabilized self-acting fluid film radial bearings, overall rotor dynamics, thermal analysis of the turbine section, turbine tip clearance control, and the general construction of the machine. A preliminary layout of the unit is included.
