This paper describes the initial features and capabilities of the US Navy’s conceptual condition monitoring software, called Poseidon, for its LM2500 Marine Gas Turbines (MGTs). Poseidon is acomprehensive suite of software modules designed to provide state-of-the-art condition monitoring, diagnostics, prognostics and maintenance reasoning for the fleet of LM2500 MGTs retrofitted with Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC). Poseidon will be capable of performance and vibration diagnostics, sensor fault detection, event archiving, and maintenance reasoning in addition to specific modules for tracking Planned Maintenance System (PMS). This paper will begin with an overview of the Poseidon program and then transition to a technical discussion on the real-time engine model and performance diagnostics, sensor validation methodology, storage and trending, and vibration diagnostics. Finally, the graphical user interface and off-line analysis capabilities of Poseidon will be introduced.
