Operating a CCGT in a highly competitive electricity market requires understanding of many pressures, often potentially conflicting. Reliability, future mechanical integrity, minimum overhaul time and accurate prediction of availability are key issues for financial competitiveness, particularly under the UK’s NETA (New Electricity Trading Arrangements) which reward frequent CCGT two–shifting. The maintenance of CCGTs, in particular gas turbines, is complex discipline, especially as regards the integrity of hot gas path components. Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) are able to offer maintenance packages to support new owners/operators through Long Term Service Agreements (LTSAs). Independent Power Producers (IPPs) are often required by project lenders to adopt this approach, but at a premium. Independent Service Providers (ISPs) are increasingly becoming available as a credible and more cost effective alternative in supporting CCGTs. InnogyOne has developed a comprehensive operations and maintenance package consisting of expert tools and procedures that address the technical, financial and management concerns of CCGT stations. This paper focuses on InnogyOne’s outage strategy and management for a large 1360MW CCGT. Hot Gas Path (HGP) life optimization, gas turbine maintenance strategy including refurbishment, component re-engineering and managing technical risks for pressure parts are addressed. Data capture, quality assurance and documentation are also considered.
