Power tracking and temperature control of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) for co-flow and counter-flow configurations have been studied. Partial internal reformation has been used to address many of the difficulties associated with delays in balance of plant (BOP). High performance controllers are used to reduce thermal stresses that can result from rapid and significant power tracking. Both co-flow and counter-flow designs are considered and advantages and disadvantage of each are then reviewed.
