Maritime currents show a high potential for electricity generation. Consequently there are many projects for their exploitation. Here the development of a maritime current turbine is shown. A shrouded propeller turbine has been chosen. The design of the propeller as well as the design of the shroud are discussed. The turbine has been developed with fixed, not adjustable blades and with variable speed operation. For the propeller the robustness has been emphasized against the peak efficiency. The design goal for the shroud has been to find a very compact shape without loosing much of the performance in order to reduce the production costs.
