Water is widely used in enhanced recovery operation in hydraulic fracking technology nowadays. Water or sea water, oil (e.g., resin) with surfactant mixing is a promising way to improve the efficacy to the recovering operation. In this study, we apply advanced multiphase flow models such as population balance model (PBM) coupling with CFD to analyze the three phases mixing process. The simulation will target more than 30 minutes of physical time, validate the evolution of mixing through experimental observations. The goal of this study is in two-fold: 1) assessment of population balance model with applications to high volume fraction of dispersed phases (e.g., resin), and 2) enhancement of the computational capability available in commercial software such as ANSYS FLUENT.
