The concrete volute pump with a specific speed of 460 has been designed. The performance characteristics and radial thrust has been investigated for three types of volute casings by using CFD. The first one is a conventional volute casing, the second one is the volute with diffuser and the third one is a double volute, respectively. Here the volutes have been designed by the constant velocity method. The effects of the diffuser and the double volute on the radial thrust have been compared by using the transient calculation. The analysis results show that radial force of the volute with a diffuser decreases at off-design conditions compared to the other volutes.
