Abstract

The free gas presence and the viscous fluids managing have been the two most controversial problems that the production engineer has had to face when selecting an ESP system. Growing demand of this method and failures occurred in Venezuelan wells (Orinoco Belt) have stimulated research on existing equipment and technological alternatives. An experimental test with GC-2900 pump was conducted at INTEVEP’s modified facilities. The experimental matrix included tests at different void fraction and pump intake pressure using air, water and mineral oil (375 Cp). Experimental results and analyses pertaining to the behavior of the pump operating at this condition are presented.
