The purpose of continuous blending is to be able to feed downstream processing equipment without interruption which helps assure a continuous flow of product out of the processing plant to the consumer shelves. Over the years a couple of different continuous blending methods have been employed with slight variations. Most successful systems employ batching or in-line continuous systems that are based on volumetric flow or mass flow of ingredients.
