The first words in Dransfield’s book on “Engineering Systems and Automatic Control” are: “A machine or process is restrained to operate in a predetermined manner; that is, it is controlled. Restraint is usually achieved by controlling a selected physical variable vital to the performance of the particular machine.”
It is the intent of this paper to propose pounds-solids as the variable, vital to the operation of a citrus processing plant. Contents of this paper describe a methodology for commercially measuring pounds-solids and using this information to optimize plant efficiency.
