Until two or three years ago, the conventional method of getting canned, glassed, or packaged goods to market was to load them into a top-opening regular printed and slotted corrugated case. The packaging operation itself had become pretty well automated through use of drop type and push in equipment. Some had completely automated the system with automatic case openings positioning and gluing and sealing machines. By far the bulk of the packing industry was still in the semi-automatic stage of manual case opening and placing the case on the packer funnel to complete the loading cycle, prior to discharge and conveying to the gluer.
