On May 3, 1955, Hugh Schwarz of Minute Maid delivered a paper at the first Citrus Engineering Conference. In this presentation, Mr. Schwarz outlined some of the problems that faced the citrus industry. He referred to frozen orange concentrate as the “Cinderella” of the industry. Certainly he was correct as a quick look at the growth of production volume will show — from 226,000 gallons in 1946 to 67,000,000 gallons in 1954, with a peak of 116,000,000 gallons in 1962. The industry has expanded indeed in the decade since the first conference.
