Electrical stimulation of neural tissue is a promising therapy for a variety of neurological diseases. For example, electrical stimulation of deep thalamic nuclei has been used extensively to treat symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, and there is growing interest in treating other conditions including epilepsy and depression with similar techniques. However, the mechanisms of electrical brain stimulation for disease therapy are not fully understood .
